Use These Tips For Severe Weather This Hurricane & Tornado Season

The summer brings warmer weather, which is great news for your pool party and backyard barbecue plans. It is not, however, as great of news for our nation’s severe weather. In fact, it is currently both hurricane and tornado season.

We want to keep you safe this summer, so we have compiled this list of severe weather tips for both hurricane and tornado season.

  • Have A Game Plan: Take the time before disaster is imminent to gather your family and create a disaster plan. It might feel a little cheesy, but knowing you have a predetermined rendezvous point should you be separated when a natural disaster comes will give you significant peace of mind. Also, make sure every member of your family knows where to seek shelter at your house, at work, or near school.
  • Set Up Supplies: If you end up seeking refuge inside your home, you will want to have emergency supplies there to sustain you. To ensure you have what you need to wait out a storm, create an emergency supply kit with one gallon of water per person per day, nonperishable food, blankets, hand crank radios and flashlights (or extra batteries), and a fully-stocked first aid kit.
  • Stay Informed: Regularly check the weather so you can be advised of storms moving in before they hit your city.
